Weight Loss Myths

There is plenty of inaccurate data going around the weight loss industry and many people who are getting on this platform and looking for ways to lose weight have fallen victim to such myths. Let us look at some of the most popular myths circulating on this industry.

Myth # 1: Genetics is the Biggest Factor
It is true to say that a person's genetic disposition plays a part in determining their metabolic rate, but this doesn't mean that you are doomed to follow in the footsteps of your parents if they are overweight or obese.More importantly, it's the number of calories you consume that goes a long way in fating your success or indeed failure in any weight loss programme you are following. Also the amount of physical activity you do in a day is important because its all about burning more calories that you consume as long as you aren't consuming excessive amounts of course. Yes genetics are responsible for determining how many calories you will burn. But if you have a slower metabolic rate you are likely to find it harder to burn calories as you will be burning them at a slower rate as opposed to someone with a higher metabolic rate. So don't let yourself be defeated by the supposition that genetic disposition will doom you to failure.

Myth #2: Avoid Carbohydrates
This theory is adopted by the most renowned high protein diets such as the Atkins diet, the South beach and many other fashionable diets that endorse a diet rich in protein and low in carbohydrates. Its true that diets like these can result in noteworthy weight loss in a reasonably short amount of time. But the results aren't really long lasting and once you start eating your normal diet the weight simply returns again and sometimes even more than before you started. What you want is more long term weight loss which in this context means eating carbohydrates and protein together. But avoid the simple carbohydrates - the quick energy releasing sugars from chocolate, cakes etc etc. Shoot for complex carbohydrates instead that are found in foods such as potato, rice and pasta.

Myth # 3: Fat is to be avoided
Another theory is that you need to cut down on fat during a weight loss program. But the most important element to fat control is reducing the dangerous fats and increasing your consumption of healthy fat. So you need to try and avoid Trans fat and saturated fat and increase your consumption of healthy fats such as polyunsaturated and Omega-3. These healthy fats are abundant in foods such as fish, olive oil, and avocados.

Myth # 4: Skipping meals
Skipping meals wont necessarily assist with weight loss as it can lower your metabolism and makes it more difficult to lose weight. Eating more often through the day is more important, but you need to consume the foods that are good for you. This means more salads, vegetables, nuts and fruits! Snack on a large slice of juicy watermelon instead of reaching out for the next scoop of your favourite ice-cream!.The latest research, in fact, indicates 5 smaller meals eaten at regular intervals throughout the day are more likely to encourage weight loss than 3 big ones.

Myth # 5: Avoid White Food
Sometimes the advice is to avoid white foods but contrary to this, there are many "white" foods that may be good for you. Avocadoes, pears, nuts-just to name a few - the key is the amount of nutrients in so called "white" foods and not the colour.

Myth # 6: Grapefruit Miracle
There is a group of thought that promotes grapefruit as a way to lose fat. There is allegedly a magic fat-burning enzyme in grapefruits that can help you lose weight if you eat them. However the validity of the claims is to be questioned and also whether the citrus industry played a role in funding this research for their own gains. What isn't in doubt is that grapefruits are rich in lycopene which is an ingredients that can help provide nutrient and care for the cellular and cardiovascular health. It alsocan help with the prevention of cancer.
So, there you have it - the top 6 myths of weight loss that you may have encountered. They may not apply to everyone but just bear these in mind when pursuing your weight loss goals. Good luck with your weight loss endeavours!

Choosing a weight Loss Programme

Choosing a Weight Loss Programme

For anyone thinking of buying products or services related to weight loss,

here are a few simple guidelines to help you get the best value and performance

from your choice. Obesity is fast becoming our number one health problem and as

a result, weight loss products and services have become a multi million dollar

industry. People desperately wanting to lose weight can be easily seduced by slick

advertising and clever packaging offering fast results. With so much on offer it is

hard to know where to start. The best and first place to visit is your doctor, who

can advise just how much weight you should lose and at what speed. Any medications

you are on may have a bearing on what diets you could choose. Before you part with

your hard earned cash, take time to consider all of your options, and then decide

what path you will follow. The types of things we are talking about here are;

· Pills that suppress your appetite.

· Diet drinks designed to replace meals.

· Specially packaged diet meals.

· Exercise equipment to burn off fat.

· Companies that offer weight loss through a support system.

Do it yourself via books that offer every diet under the sun... You may need to or wish to follow

more than one pathway; however you must be able to see yourself fulfilling the strategy to its end.

Don't be fooled, there is no easy way!!.Now you must spend more time researching the products or services

within that category. Don't get side tracked by fancy packaging, or pictures of glamorous models, look

for information about the product. All diets and weight loss programmes require time and effort. Once you

come to terms with that you can get serious about shedding those extra pounds. When considering your options,

think about your lifestyle, a special diet that takes a lot of preparation might not be suitable if you have

tight schedules. To be fair, most diets or weight loss programmes will work, but only if you work at them.

Unfortunately it is all too easy to lose motivation and revert back to old habits. For this reason it is important

that you understand exactly what is involved. Read the small print, especially if you are on any kind of medication.

Weight loss and exercise generally go hand in hand since as you lose weight the muscles will need toning up. Find out

which companies can offer this sort of package and what advice and support they offer. If this is a weight loss

academy or similar, pay them a visit, ask questions and meet the people you will be dealing with. Reputable companies

are only too happy to give information and advice, nor will they pressure you into taking their programme. Collect

brochures and product information to read at your leisure, giving yourself time to understand and make comparisons.

Friends always want to help and are full of advice but do your own due diligence, choose what is right for you,

as you are the one who will be doing the work. Beware of fad diets, they are usually aimed at quick results and

are not suitable for the long term. They are of a very general nature and may not be right for your metabolism or

energy use. Taking the time and care to choose the correct weight loss system will pay dividends and offer you a

better chance of success. Although appearance or wanting to look good is a big motivation for shedding weight the

real benefit is improved health and vitality.

Do we need diets

Posted by Jeff | 4:42 AM

Do we need diets?, when we ask this question everybody have their own answer with their own reason. Mention about diets automatically we think about over weight or obesity issues. Actually I'm not doctor, diets consultant or expertise in this field. I'm only ordinary people that curious and sceptical about diet. I found diets become a modern lifestyle and everybody talking about how to loose weight, how to build beautiful body like a model and how to control our meals. It's become first priority in our live. That's why I provide this blog to share your thought, experince and infoemation about diets. For your knowlegde my current weight is about 78 kilos ( woowww...to big for those who involved in diet programmes).
My point of view as long as our body have excellent health, free from killer disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc etc etc and having happy life it's enough for me. It doesn't matter how fat you are and how big you are. You can argue my opinion because every one has their own target in their live. And one more question for you to answer, are fat man really having health problem compared to skinny ones?.

Thanks, see you again.
